I'm not sure if he would be running for president if not for his legal problems, note that he announced he was running as soon as he realised that he was about to be indicted and that was way earlier than is normally done.

Mind you he is now probably thinking that if he can be president again he can surround himself with Yes men, get revenge and maybe say in power beyond a second term
