I don't think the strategists in The PRC think like that.
They're tactical pragmatists and have got their eye on the next election and whether they can hold out longer than him in the trade war.
As others have said.
I think they're betting he will flame out. So the beliefs of US voters on the issue of credibility feeds into that perception about credibility.
But the PRP will deal with anyone. Including soulless/moral less/ con man/woman.
They've disengaged with Trump except for appearances sake.
Politics is a very tough game indeed. There is no reason to imagine it's devoid of soulless/immoral/confidence people on any side. It's all relative.
If you look at the latest opinion polls, Trump has a solid base. It's not budging, no matter what he does or says.
