. I've been watching some true crime murder documentaries detailing crimes from the early part of the 20th century. The timeline tended to be something like murder in December, trial in February, unsuccessful appeal in April, hanged in May. It now seems to take years to get to trial, which becomes decades if it's a white collar case or the defendant has a decent legal team, and months between conviction and sentencing. In this case the defendant has comfortably filibustered proceedings such that he'll be safely in the White House to pardon himself if he wins before a plethora of criminal charges make it to trial.
