So what do people think Trump and his new team will likely do regarding CCS?
If CCS support was to be pulled or reduced, does that mean Alberta CCS backed projects will be more or less appealing to data centre players?
What if CCS support was to be maintained or (I'm doubtful on this - but he did hire RFK junior as health sec) increased?
In thinking about it, one key question is the attractiveness of low carbon data centres for major players. Data centres could possibly go for high CO2 generating power supplies, which would be a fast way of building and growing. But they would know that they might get pinged if a change of government penalises them for it. Alternatively they might think they should go for it - build it before there is a change of gov and let any future new gov try to raise costs for them.
Another key issue is what the data centre customers think. Especially for us AI customers.
Keen to hear thoughts, as I would like to understand what any regulatory changes might lead to.
