Dex when Trump was promising to end the war on day one, expected it to be by effectively handing Ukraine over to Putin on a platter.
My speculation is that Putin didn't promise to give Trump a big enough reward for doing so, any negotiations to end the war would be centred around what Trump gets out of it.
