You saw what happened when the Saudis noticed that they were finally getting some blame. They simply threatened to dump most of their US treasuries on the market which would have crashed the USD. There is a lot of discussion about whether they had enough treasuries to do any damage but suddenly the whole story was hushed up. I reckon the "powers that be" decided that the petrodollar was still trumps, no pun intended.
No doubt Trump has been briefed on the Saudi issue but has been warned to avoid it for now. Tinkering directly with the petrodollar could be very unhealthy. As the BRICS become more powerful the petrodollar and the Saudis will gradually fade away, much to the dismay of the elites, but I'm sure most of them will be able to move their investments around to compensate.
