This case is all about Criminal acts.

That was what Trump was originally charged with in the lower District Court.

His lawyers appealed to the Supreme Court on Constitutional grounds (interpretation of the Constitution; on whether he could be Criminally prosecuted).

The justices ruled (6-3) that:

1. His actions in getting the Justice Department to investigate whether there was fraud in the election, was within his duties as President, and as such was immune from Criminal Prosecution,

2. His actions in pressuring Pence Not to certify the votes, was within the outer perimeter (tenuous link) of his official responsibility and as such, he was entitled to "Presumptive" Immunity on any Criminal Prosecution, but

3. The other Criminal charges will go back to the District Court for its determination

A new trial date will be set, but it unlikely to take place until 2025, which will be after the November election.

These legal precedents will have far reaching consequences Not only for Trump but for future Presidents - especially the "Presumptive Immunity" which is based on any tenuous link to the President's official responsibility.

Its why the Trump legal team have now launched a legal case, seeking to overturn the hush-money-payment Criminal Conviction.
