Re "Conspiratory theories."
I imagine you might also mean conspiracy theories. Anyway, you do know, which ever way you express it, the phrase was deliberately created to allow the ignorant members of society to feel like they were usefully joining in on the public discussion. A group in authority can simply circulate, via media etc, the notion that any opposition to their narrative is a "conspiracy theory" and amazingly there is any number of duck-eggs out in the public that will repeat the phrase ad-nauseum to the utter delight of those in power. They won't even bother offering an argument nowadays, just simply puff out their chests and say "That sounds like a conspiracy theory" and move on thinking their point is somehow deserving of credit.
Completely obliging and dumb sheep, every last wooly one of them.
