''Which way would they lean as Trump lurches ever further into the land of The Handmaids Tale?''

the question I have is that the military have stated many times that they are loyal to the constitution and not to a president

sounds all fine. And one can assume, rightly or wrongly, that they would recognise the final arbiter of the 'interpretation' of the constitution as the Supreme Court - also fine, stacked or not.

But, the real question is 'on what issues would the military move against the president?'

    Eg.

    * if Trump disregarded SCOTUS deciding that his tariff mechanisms is illegal - but, Trump persisted and ignored the court - would the military intervene?

*some issue to do with jailing dissidents or political competition

    or -
    * would the military ONLY intervene if the SCOTUS ruled on some kind of military order as being unconstitutional, but Trump continued to order the military to do whatever it was anyway?

The issue is something that I've not seen anything written about.
