Historically socialism has lead to communism and in Aus we currently have a freemarket that supports the elderly through the pension system. There aren't too many WW2 vets left so regardless of being a war veteran, I believe all of the elderly and vulnerable should be taken care of and I'm happy my taxes contribute to that. A pension is the equivalent of being on centrelink welfare, you're given enough just to get by so while you are young, you should build a retirement fund/portfolio to retire on.
