Trust the data: wAvg Price is better than just Close Price

Being a small cap and illiquid allows for other participants to somewhat influence a Company's share price under certain circumstances, one of those being during the end of day match out.

Such behaviour is actually against the law under Market Manipulation (so don't get any crazy ideas of such actions yourself) , yet given the vast number of stocks on the market would stretch the resources of market governance to stay on top of it all. It would be naive to think it doesn't occur.

This thread is purely for the purpose of providing the actual data that goes into the daily share price action, and in my opinion introduces and shows variances between the wAvg (weighted average - being total value traded divide by total qty of shares treaded) as opposed to just what the final trade Close price was.

Why ?, because in many examples small amounts of orders are "matched out" during the final 10 minutes during the 4pm hour, and those match outs can often cause the day's Close price to tick up or tick down, sometimes on just a single share having triggered through to the next price level.

The point being, in a small and less liquid stock, the close price is often not representative of the value placed upon the trades of that day, over the cause of the entire day.

It is, in my opinion, a bit of a trap to fall into decisions to buy / sell or even value the company, on the basis of just the close price.

Of the trading platforms I have access to, only Commsec brings together the trades from both ASX and CHI-X as a holistic representation of the trading day.
