our white historical record has been the dominant truth that we were taught. I didn't learn any better till I went to uni. since then I met hundreds of Aboriginal people, some who refused to identify as Aboriginal because such attracted negativity, others who couldn't care less but enjoyed their Aboriginality, and more who embraced the dogma of White Aus and still more who embraced their Aboriginal culture tightly and lived it, owned it and told it.
everyone is different. but the Aboriginal truth has been disparaged and called lies by defensive historians and ordinary whites alike. all very defensive.
theres always more than one side to any interaction between people and cultures. the evidence tells a lot of stories.
they want to have their truth on the public record. what is wrong with that?
