ACC Lauds Passage Of Senate Bill To Reform TSCA

WASHINGTON, Dec. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The United States Senate tonight overwhelmingly passed S. 697, the "Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act."

American Chemistry Council President and CEO Cal Dooley issued the following statement:

"After years of significant contributions from the public health, environmental, labor, consumer groups and industry, the U.S. is now closer to updating the nation's primary chemical safety law for the first time in four decades. Today's bipartisan passage of the 'Frank R. Lautenberg Chemicals Safety for the 21st Century Act' is a watershed moment in the history of U.S. environmental legislation. This legislation demonstrates what is possible when stakeholders put their differences aside and come together to work toward a common objective.

"We commend the Senate for an overwhelming vote in favor of this legislation. In particular we commend Senators Udall, Vitter and Inhofe for their unwavering resolve to craft and pass comprehensive legislation that will protect human health and the environment, build confidence in the U.S. chemical regulatory system and address the commercial and competitive needs of the U.S. chemical industry and the national economy. And we thank all the senators who helped bring this day to fruition through their co-sponsorship of the bill.

"ACC and its members are committed to working with members of the House and Senate to reconcile the provisions of H.R. 2576 and S. 697, and we look forward to celebrating delivery of a final bill to the president's desk early in the new year."
