A former Indonesian Navy marine called Satria Arta Kumbara thought it would be a good idea to volunteer as a mercenary for Russia in the war in Ukraine. Now he has changed his mind and wants the Indonesian Defence Force to help him get out of his contract as a mercenary soldier and facilitate his return to Indonesia.
Unfortunately for Satria, the Admiral of the Indonesian navy said that Satria made his own decision and that he breached Indonesian law by offering his services to Russia in Ukraine. His contract is a matter between him and the Russian Government, and the Indonesian Navy will not help him. He can apply to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it is aware of, and is monitoring the situation, but the difficulty is that Satria has now been assigned to the front line in Ukraine.
