    When the planet cooled stress cracks formed in the solidified surface, creating what we call plates in the surface of the earth's sphere.
    Now, with the rotation of the planet we introduce centrifugal forces causing these plates to "rub" against each other.
    Sometime the plates "stick" and because the spinning is constant, tremendous forces are set up between these plate joints.
    Eventually, something gives, and the plates align themselves to their new positions.
    The result of this movement recently is obvious for all to see.
    If there is a Creator then that's the person to blame.
    He didn't do a very good job and set the coefficient of thermal expansion to high for the material the earths surface is made from. Hence, the cracks.
    Bit like concrete cracking if it hydrates too fast.
    Bleedin' obvious really.
