It is an enormous sum of money. When we compare generosity the USA will always win in absolute terms, it is the wealthiest nation in the world and has about 300 million people.

In my mind the true comparison is on a per capita basis and on GDP and when you do that the US is way down and the Scandinavian countries beat them by a county mile. I do not know about private giving, but that is not confined to the US, other Christian countries are equally generous.

Check the UN data. They are rather stingey.
