You can't blame day traders for the lack of major price movement. Day traders don't just sell. They buy and sell. Day traders actually push prices up quickly when they are jumping in and then send prices back to realistic levels when they bail.
I believe that without day traders getting involved a stock moves in a more consistent manner and with day traders a stock moves with more volatility. I think you still end up at the same place eventually with or without their involvement.
One could argue that without day traders todays opening would have been .029 and we would have still ended at .03
