Last night Home Depot, Microsoft and United Health together added 91 points to the DOW.
Apple and Visa together lost 49 DOW points.
The remaining 25 DOW components combined to add 27 points to get to the +69 DOW close.
The advance/decline ratio was a middling 0.53, showing once again the power of high $ price components to move the DOW.
It strikes me that large hedge funds could manipulate the DOW by trading in a half dozen of the higher priced, highly liquid DOW components to make money on DOW index trades … those half dozen often revert to the mean within the next 1-2 trading days, with the same hedge funds likely unwinding profitably.
