I presume it wasn't for lack of money, and can only assume they had some simple test to see if you understood certain aspects such as gearing and how it might affect you.

I have no doubt that some or even many institutions are wary of law suits these days from people who have lost a lot of money and are trying to protect themselves more in the future.
