A fair question, sailorgirl. First, most of the interpreters are/were Hazara's; an ethnic minority and enemy of the Taliban. Second, it is more than likely that the Taliban will regain government, so the existing governments protection would have a limited lifespan. And third, it is almost impossible to hid from the Taliban when you're regarded as a traitor, given the culture. Its a bit like how the French police were slaughtered in their thousands by the French Resistance at the end of WW2 for working with the German's. In any war where a country is invaded, traitors, or those colluding with the enemy invaders are on the hit list.
