Very true. It's fustrange when they say love is blind - and I can remember being shocked and hurt when Rudd went and it was only after when background stories emerged of him that you could see why he had to go.
It was plain to see even before MrAbbott was elected PM, even before he was elected Opposition Leader, that he was seriously flawed, but to those who loved him they will be in shock today. The real stories on that really flawed person will emerge - they are on the net - you can find them - but not focused on in MSM. His supporters will be in despair when they realise what sort of politician and personality he was/IS. Your last two sentences are undeniable.
Just seen a TV shot of parliament house - there is a rainbow over it. A new morning for the LNP, or a conscience vote on marriage equality: probably both.
