That was because to do so would restart the Prople smuggling disaster which saw thousands drown, strained Indonesian anti corruption efforts, and cost us billions. Billions better spent helping orderly processing of refugees in front line states.
Their proximity (same time zone) makes them media-worthy and thus has become an embarrassment to lefty Mal, who would like to put them in Campbelltown, Elizabeth or Dandenong, certainly not Point Piper, Balmain, Toorak, Yarraville. Or failing that, Detroit, Chicago or Louisville.
