The ALP members owe their position to pre selection by their relevant ALP faction, these are controlled by the Secretaries of various unions. This structure has been criticized but it remains in force. There is a lot of downside to this but there is an upside. ALP MPs have a boss.
Liberal MPs have no boss to answer to. A liberal MP in a safe seat has a job for life. Local members of his party cannot practically unseat him. Hence the disgraceful ex minister of health caught with her snout in the trough will keep her seat. She like other Lib MPs rort the system as much as they can get away with for life. They become arrogant and unaccountable.
Liberal MPs have ratted on their core base. The self sufficient retirees who believed in the system. They thought their supporters had no where else to turn and no power, so they "pineappled" them.
ALP members never disrespect their union power base, they fear it. They would never "pineapple" their supporters who hold the pre selection power.
