There definitely appears to be not much of the mother or father in Mal. He's an insipid version of the two! Mum seems to have the balls in the family, with Mal's inheritance way off the mark!
Mal has as much charisma as those mining acts seen in the streets of Paris. Definitely not the life of the party and that includes the Liberal Party, where the Party has lost all semblance of its once great political character. The Party is but a caricature of the 'dud' himself, lackluster in every sense of the way.
