Ultimately the government is elected by the people for the people.
Imagine a PM saying something like this
"I thought it was going to be poisonously unpopular, frankly," he said.
"And we all felt we are going to get hammered into the ground in the opinion polls, and we probably will be."
It is not the oppositions job to dictate to the people what is good for them.
Nor is it their responsibility to have what they consider a better stimulus package implemented.
Sure....lets hold it up for a review, the government can concede modification if deemed overwhelmingly necessary but let them govern.
If Rudd and Co have got it so wrong then Libs will win the next election in a landslide.
