If you look at Australia from a point of latitude, we are located in a desert belt. Much of Australia is either semi arid or arid to the point of desert. It's only the coastal sections where there is consistent rainfall. Even the coastal areas of WA, around Port Hedland, Marble Bar are lucky to get any rainfall at all and rely on Cyclones creating rain bearing depressions.
