Living on borrowed time? A new poll shows Malcolm Turnbull losing Wentworth A new opinion poll gives Labor the lead in the eastern Sydney seat held by federal Environment Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
The Nielsen poll published in today's Sydney Morning Herald newspaper shows the Labor candidate for Wentworth, George Newhouse, has a two-party preferred lead of 52 per cent to 48 per cent.
Mr Newhouse says it is an astounding result.
"Wentworth has been in Coalition hands for over 100 years - it's never changed hands, it's a blue ribbon seat," he said.
"The fact that it's on a knife-edge reflects the fact that the Howard-Turnbull Government is totally out of touch with locals."
Another poll commissioned by the newspaper gives Labor a lead of 53 per cent to 47 per cent in the bellweather electorate of Eden-Monaro in south-east New South Wales.
The seat has gone to the party that has won government at every election since 1972.
