Its just such low energy intensity methods of power generation are so inefficient they're not going to get us out of the scrape were in.
And that's using relatively low levels of electricity. To achieve Shorten's 50% renewable target there's a vast amount of hydrocarbon-based power that suddenly has to become renewables-based. And given the inefficientcy of renewables there has to be a large amount of redundancy and duplication built into the system.
