Rob to be eligible for the options you must own the shares on the record date (the 8th). Since settlement with ASX takes 2 days, what people are meaning is that you must buy the shares on the 6th at latest to be eligible. If you buy on the 7th, transfer of the ownership of shares won't take place until the 9th and hence you won't be eligible.
