0310 GMT - A handful of Australian wine producers have been affected by new Chinese
customs regulations as political tensions between the countries simmer. But Australia's
Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade says the issue is nearing resolution. "It's a
paperwork issue," says Graham Fletcher, a department official responsible for China. "The
issue relates to the application of reduced tariffs through verification of the origin of
the shipment." Treasury Wine says its products are stalled because of Chinese customs
rules targeting Australia-made wines from large producers. DFAT Secretary Frances Adamson
says China is unhappy about counterespionage and foreign-interference laws before
Australia's Parliament, as well as Canberra's comments on Chinese territorial claims in
the South China Sea. But Chinese officials have been less hostile in private, she adds.
