You see this story play out very often in developing nations. A populist government is elected on a nationalist or anti-corruption mandate. They make a significant over-reach to prove a point and appease the voter base. The resulting economic impact hits home and the government is forced to take a more pragmatic approach.
The good news for Tanzania is it looks like this is happening faster than you often see. Agree their hand was forced to some extent by Barrick's PR exercise.
