@LiverpoolOne, I think what you will find is that telcos are diversifying their business. If they provide internet connections to homes, they also provide wifi. And that being the case they would like to bundle with products that use that wifi, Such as home assistants, alarm systems, camera and ....lights!!

Just have a look at comcast in the USA. LIFX and Hue are the only two smart home lights they promote. Go to a telstra shop and have a look at the gadgets they are partnering with.
