What really gets me upset, is those who have the initiative to start a company like FMG, or even buy shares in an explorer, who take a leap of faith in some cases, shell out hard earned cash to fund exploration, development, approvals, infrastructure builds, basically do a whole lot of hard work and experience quite a bit of stress along the way, have this bozo come along and make claim to the fruits of the investment and hard work of other people.

Imagine what projects would not exist if the tax was introduced 10 years ago. FMG would likely not exist and the royalties they currently pay would also not exist, royalties that have helped save these deluded individuals in the labor party from having the country be hit by a deep recession.

IMO Kevin Rudd is the type of guy who likes to appeal to the masses and try and be a star, maybe trying his best to be like an Obama. He has tried a Robin Hood style steal from the 'wealthy' minority of shareholders of mining companies and give to the working class labour voter.

Maybe they left out some important research, calculating the number of voters that now own a share portfolio containing a domestic resource company or three. It is easy to start a share portfolio these days, maybe they have not heard of the internet at the labor party headquarters? Or maybe they thought that the average aussie would be too stupid to attribute the sizable drop in their super portfolio to the mining tax threat?

To have just gone through the GFC, and have your investments crucified again so soon by these actions, will result IMO in such anger and resentment, it would be enough to convert a staunch labor voter, who has made such investments, or is relying on their super to perform as they head into retirement, or have had to go back to work to unable to afford retirement, to desert the party and vote elsewhere.
