Companies in mining and other industries who take advantage of the diesel excise rebate are only complying with the law. If this rebate is an issue for the Government then it should address it directly instead of creating new taxes, don't you think? Many companies make extra contributions to communities and variou causes. I think paying excise they legally do not have to is asking to stretch benevolence too far.
I am not sure if in your comparison to the Medicare levy you're suggesting that the diesel excise system should be changed to something more akin to the Medicare levy?
