Good question by @Onspeed
While I'm not a Combustion Engineer (Electrical) I have commissioned alongside some great people who are and picked up some knowledge albeit possibly not accurate so DYOR.
We know the system is NG and they probably tried to get bottled CNG. They could of used LPG (Propane) but that would have a lot of other issues as they aren't directly compatible and would require the combustion train to be re-tuned (regulators, air ratios, temperature/pressure cutouts, etc) so I'm going to assume they used CNG.
Now with CNG the pressure is there (much greater than LPG and prob piped in) but what we don't know is the flow rate they would need for the boiler(s). I couldn't imagine them (maybe they did) changing bottles over days maybe they welded up a rig to connect many bottles. It sounds ambitious whichever way you look at it. Maybe they just didn't have enough bottles to do a large scale run (which AM alluded too).
