I'd agree with a purebred, though not a mutt. Besides the obvious health advantages, there's also a significant difference in temperament.
He plays with other dogs of all sizes, from a small fox terriers to dogs his size. He adjusts his play depending on size of other dogs as to not hurt them. And humans....loves them even more. Doesn't bark, never bitten, never growled at anyone. Further, not featured on the dangerous dog breeds. The most docile dog I've ever owned without question.
