Osr1986 ,you may be right about other interested parties but the environmental group involved(Walhi) play a pretty straight bat and aren't working on behalf of sharks with an interest.Sources of fresh water are a valuable resource in some parts of Sumbawa.The other thing is that the protests were,to my understanding,led by student activists.I've lived here a long time ,and the last 4 months have seen more demonstrations by students then at any time since 1998.
I firmly believe we will be seeing more disturbances throughout Indonesia over the course of this year.People voted for the current government and SBY(President)in the belief things would get better.Now his own party has been revealed to be extremely corrupt with at least 7 of his parliamentarians facing corruption charges.
Many of my extended family have withdrawn money from banks here and converted it to US$ which are now carefully stashed below ground.
