I have two messages for the Australian people about SARS-Cov-2 and the Australian government. The virus does not have legs, nor wings, even if it is an aerosol for a short while. If you want to stop it from spreading, then don’t take it with you. You see, some people have it on them, and they leave it where they go, even if they don’t know it, and of course, others pick it up and take it home. Every person who does, gives it to three more, and you can suddenly see what exponential growth means. So stay home!
The Australian government is implicit in spreading the virus because they have only introduced incremental lock-downs relative to the number of cases. But the number of known cases is not a means to base policy on. Eventually, full lock down will be imposed once Australia’s hospitals are overwhelmed and the virus is at peak outbreak. Some weeks after full lock-down, transmissions will decrease, and the Australian government will proudly boast that they have beaten the beast. They will claim that their mitigation strategy has worked. Many unnecessary deaths will have occurred by then, and the economy will be at its worse.
As such, it is only full lock-down that will win the day. Some day in the future, but not beforehand.
You see, Australia has only ever had a mitigation policy. They have never had a containment policy. Once the Prime Minister was forced to stop attending the football and take this seriously, he declared that ‘no country can stop the virus.’ Mitigation therefore became the governments policy, incrementally locking down the country while they focused mostly on the economy and shopping aisles. They had no policy of containment, like Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Vietnam did. Australia naively believed from the beginning that they could not contain it. This of course was only an excuse to ‘keep the country running.’
This message to Australia is that SARS-Cov-2 will become your brute master, and will kill many, many more people before it is finally contained. Containment will come with full lock-down, not before. The Australian government will be implicit in enabling this viral coupe. As such, they will have committed treason against the people. But the Australian people will do little about it. The football will commence again shortly afterwards, even if our elderly spectators won’t be here any more to watch it.
Australia needs to fully lock-down now and increase testing as much as possible. In two weeks, every sick person will be known, and once known, the virus will be contained.
