A good read is a Book called "from the first to the last" by Adolf GALLAND, one of germany's most famous fighter aces of WW2.
He also describes similar interactions with the allied enemy where after a dog fight and out of ammunition they would salute each other and fly home.
The fighter pilots of WW2, both axis and allied airmen fought their war over europe with honour, distinction and respect, they were gentlemen and were proud if their conduct.
