Raila, is an interesting guy.
He was the first African leader to criticise Mugabe.. it did not make him friends at the time coz that is African politics; however he has proven to be as successful in politics as he was in business.
Tanzania and Uganda are protected by a 5% tariff on everything out of Kenya, but can push into Kenya without tariffs. This was to allow Tz and Ugandan economies to acclimatise to an aggressive market.
It finishes very soon and they will all be on an equal footing. It should be a good thing for all, but will cause a bit of grief in small business short term imo.
Long term it will make them all globally competitive.
East Africa is the next competition zone and there will be fabulous wealth made there; lets just hope we are in the midst of it.
