Uranium spot price slips on word of deals below $52/lb U308: analysts

The spot price of uranium slipped over the past week on the completion of several deals at below $52/lb U3O8, analysts said.

TradeTech on Friday cut its weekly spot price to $51.80/lb, 20 cents below its price on February 24. TradeTech?s daily price on Monday also was $51.80/lb. The company said market activity remains slow, with neither buyers nor sellers showing "a strong willingness to move from their respective positions."

Ux Consulting on Monday reduced its weekly spot price 25 cents to $51.75/lb and said despite the decline "there is not a lot of supply chasing down price."

The spot price moved lower, analysts said, on news last week that Nukem was the winner in the competition to sell to Brazilian fuel cycle company INB about 800,000 lb U3O8 for near-term delivery. Nukem, market sources said, beat out Cameco. The price, one analyst said, was "a hair under $52/lb."

In addition to the INB award, at least one other deal was believed to have been completed earlier in the week of February 26 -- a producer selling about 100,000 lb at about $51.80/lb for delivery in March, a market source said.

UxC's broker average price on Monday was $51.71/lb, down from $52/lb on March 1. The BAP bid-offer spread was $51.30/lb-$52.13/lb. The BAP is based on the price information from Evolution Markets and Armajaro Securities.

The Platts NuclearFuel range for the week was $50.50-$52.75/lb U3O8. --Mike Knapik
