re: u.s. preparing military strike japan Thanks Plough. I was just on the verge of replying to your post as I was searching for the relevant word and Potsdam just came to mind.
It's very sad and tragic that the USA had to resort to the bomb to end the war but the Japanese intransigence left it no choice. Even now, unlike Germany, Japan refuses to apologise for its war time atrocities.
