Galexywind is correct,road trains with u3o8 travel through Katherine and other towns daily with drivers stopping for a beer.U3o8 in this form is no more radioactive than a dental xray on the beach on a hot day.not until you turn it into the isotope u235 does it become very excited,then when expired the waste has a chemical added to it to form it into a solid (concrete like)that will not leach when buried,Bob Hawke suggested Aust Make a profitable business burying it in the middle of Aus .With REEs ther are plenty of them over the planet there is not a lot of profit in REEs(eg linus),But there is only 81 years of known supplies of U308 discounting the use of sea water and Thorium, to expensive to extract,Therefore Kaveanfield and Olympic dam sites hold a majority of the known reserves, if u3o8 gets back to $70/ lb US watch BHP open up Olympic dam.

If the government of Greenland doesn't approve minning now it wont be long because the world needs it.
and i would be quiet confident that if the locals (no ref to you Local) were well informed of the transport , use and disposal of this matreial they would vote in favour of minning it ,however the truth gets clouded by lies of ill informed people.
