completely agree. the antiqued tactics of waving down a cab or calling a cab & hoping it shows up...getting your cash or credit card out...
the taxi industry refused to change and embrace technology because it refused to change. It's a breath of fresh air actually to be able to reliability request a car, see it's status updates, eta and then automatically pay. I recently had a trip to NYC and ended up in a taxi. I learned about the "Curb" app. Works pretty similar to uber (with the ability to request, see a map, eta, pay) but the feature I particularly like is if you do just "hop in a cab" you can easily pair your account with the cab for seamless payment.
