Uber got away with their entry in the market for a variety of reasons. That the taxi industry were operating below standard certainly didn’t help their cause plus the fact cabbies have historically eschewed being unionised really annoyed the TWU, hence Labor governments. So it could be argued that state governments allowed Uber to do their dirty work for them and cut the industry down to size. Call me cynical.
