"Legitimate question but I think I read that CSL is providing the AZ vaccines at near cost. Which is not all that altruistic as the egg facility they use to produce the AZ vaccine is very old and the technology is obsolete. It is what you would call a cash cow. No, I suspect CSL is being reasonable in its pricing of AZ vaccine with an eye on who gets the tens of millions governments will fork out for a mRNA vaccine facility. Given we are a relatively small market there is probably not enough demand for even one mRNA facility to be commercially viable. So whoever gets to own the one mRNA facility that gets built in Australia will get a lot of government assistance. The Victorians will do whatever it takes for the facility to go into Victoria, not to another state. So, if CSL works this skillfully not only will they be able to replace their obsolete vaccine production with state-of-the-art technology they will also be given sh!tloads of money from the Vics and the Feds."
