I think UCG is finally about to have its time at the top. Its been decades since it was first developed and now with all this new development, trialing and pilot plants proving its worth and value more BIG PLAYERS are just waiting on the side to take a stake in it. Surely there will be some nasty behind the scenes back stabbing, kicking and screaming from the CSG'ers etc going on but if the BIG PLAYERS (ie: Incitec Pivot, Lyondell Basell and maybe Rio Tinto etc) want a piece of it too then its fair to say they will throw money behind UCG also because its proven and ready to go. Solar is a different story because there is still more development needed for consistently large scale plants. It may take billions or trillions to get it commercially viable and reliable to cut out coal fired power stations etc and who is willing to throw that much money into something when you have UCG about to take off with more certainty.
