I keep musing on Caltex too.
Ultimately Caltex remaining just an oil refiner is a doomed business ... as oil will dwindle within a decade or three, there is a real imperative for Caltex to find alternatives if it is to survive.
Most surely they would be interested in "refining" diesel from coal via UCG and "refining" synthesised CBM via methanation of UCG syngas.
If it isn't Caltex then there will be others.
On the other side of the "imperatives" equation, CXY needs money and substance if they are to unlock the value of UCG ... a decent partner/substantial shareholder is needed imo.
Ergo are no doubt competent practitioners of UCG. A very successful pre production burn at Kingaroy may enhance that to some form of "superlative" description like "worlds best" as seems to be the industry norm as LNC and CNX announce their milestones 8)).
The current Cougar team have major focus on delivering Kingaroy ... the balance of any capacity would surely be focussed on proving a substantial reserves upgrade at Wandoan and kick starting Cougar's efforts in Victoria's Gippsland region.
Cougar can imo roll out a profitable busines supplying syngas to fuel a new power stations. However, Cougar has no current capacity or experience to develop GTL or methanation technologies.
The sp doesn't reflect any imminent corporate interest imo.
So, hopefully they'll come out of the cornfields once the Kingaroy "field of dreams" is a reality.
Cheers
