Compared to GTL: UCG-CLT is cheaper by eliminating the steam reforming step that is 50% of GTL cost.
Wow, did not realize this HUGE advantage of UCG-CTL. Not only do you get a cheap source of gas, but the gas is already close to the right composition for Fischer-Tropsch.
Feeling a little dense for not having understood this before. A key fact on the economics of UCG vs straight GTL using natural gas.
This article suggests capex cost of $40K b/d for a UCG-CTL plant. Seems expensive. $4 billion for a 100 k b/d plant?
