Fantastic story for Peter Bond, Linc and UCG generally. Should do a lot for raising the public profile of UCG.

Featured a number of clips from the ABC Qld Statewide report about Cougar a couple of weeks ago. Any uninformed viewer will have come away with the idea that they have just heard about an exciting new technology that makes it possible to turn trillions of tons of otherwise wasted coal beneath our feet into oil that can be there to save us when the other kind runs out for as far ahead as anyone could be bothered thinking about. Wow!

But the uninformed will also have come away with the idea firmly fixed in their heads that while there is this amazing company out there in the boondocks of Queensland called Linc Energy (headed up by some jolly, fat, rich, round-faced santa claus of a guy who has just driven his car to Perth on fuel as cheap as water that he made himself) smelling like roses and turning everything it touches to gold without a skerrick of environmental pollution to be seen anywhere, there is also this other wicked, evil, company (with lots to hide) called Cougar Energy out there too. And this company has caused terrible poisoning of the undergorund water with cancer-causing toxins and the all the farms around it have been affected by it and the Qld Govt has had to step in and quickly shut them down before they could cause any more harm.

It's all starting to remind me of the Lindy Chamberlain case in the 1980s when it didn't matter how loudly or often Lindy and her husband Michael said that they didn't murder their baby, the Australian community by and large, with lots of encouragement from tabloid newspapers (and probably the ABC) continued to block its collective ears and to believe that it knew what happened to baby Azaria, that it knew a witch when it saw one and that Lindy Chamberlain should just shut up and go to jail. After about four years of this lie marching around the country it took a Royal Commission to take a long hard look at all the facts, conclude that a dingo was responsible all along (just as Lindy had always said) and order the release of the deceased baby's innocent mother from prison.

I found myself sitting in front of this ABC tv program and thinking how much I wished Len could just challenge these posturing GERMheads and angst-ridden Kingaroy cowcockies to a debate on national TV, demolish them with the facts and show them all up for the sensationalist peddlers of reputation-trashing myth and misinformation that they are.
